In order to choose the Grand Prize and Honorable Mention winners for Screenplay Festival, there are three rounds to the competition. In the first round, every script is read by three judges and rated regardless of genre. The screenplays with the highest ratings move into the second round, or the Semi-Final Round when all of the scripts from each category are read by the same judges. These judges are allowed to discuss which scripts they feel should move into the next round. Hopefully there are not too many fights before it is determined who advances to the Final Round. In the Final Round, the judges from all categories read every script which made it into the Finals. After these readings come many discussions, and the Grand Prize and Honorable Mention winners are chosen from among the Finalists.

"I was eager to enter & absolutely thrilled to hear that I was awarded Honorable Mention. It was this motivation that propelled me to make the film which was then showcased in the 2004 New York International Independent Film & Video Festival. Thanks Screenplay Festival staff!"

Jeff Goldstein, The Lilac Papers
Honorable Mention Winner, 2003

"Screenplay Festival's range of categories is a real asset. My script was a quirky black comedy, and it wouldn't make sense to pit it against a drama or family film. Thanks for the recognition!"

Nicholas Turner, Hotline
Honorable Mention Winner, 2003

"I can honestly say that I have found that your contest is one of the best contests out there in terms of professionalism. Your emails, website and regular postings of contest information was always timely."

Maggie Franks, Stagemom
Honorable Mention Winner, 2003
